DNS Made Easy, the world leader in enterprise IP Anycast DNS services, announced the public release of a REST API for domain and record management. The API is now available to perform core functions of the DNS Made Easy web interface programmatically allowing clients to manage their DNS services in a more convenient and automated way. Although the API provides access to a different method of updating records within the DNS Made Easy network, it does not sacrifice any of the security present in the traditional web interface. The web interface is also still available to clients who do not wish to utilize an API. DNS Made Easy claims that the release of the API is another step in confirming that DNS Made Easy is the preferred choice to over-priced and underperforming alternatives in the enterprise IP anycast market.

The API was custom developed for the DNS Made Easy platform and is fully integrated with all major features of the DNS Made Easy interface like the Global Traffic Director, HTTP Redirection, and the Peregrine Instant DNS Update system. Clients can add or remove domains and records as well as make changes to existing records, TTL’s, or any other custom domain configurations. RESTful requests can be made via HTTP by using XML or JSON formatted transactions.

The REST API benefits DNS Made Easy clients by allowing them to automatically make changes programmatically without having to log into a conventional web interface. Clients can also further integrate with provisioning and management systems and automate administrative duties by automatically launching a new record when a new VPS or EC2 instance is created.
