DNS Made Easy’s Failover service brings massive returns to corporations by eliminating downtime.
DNS Made Easy (dnsmadeeasy.com), the leading IP Anycast DNS service provider, announced statistics on service outage prevention for its clients as a result of utilizing their DNS Failover and System Monitoring platform. The statistics were based on the third quarter of 2010.
“With the rise in social networking and online marketing,” states Steven Job, President of DNS Made Easy. “It is crucial for many of these companies to have their websites and services accessible at all times, no matter where the client is referred from, anytime day or night. Our clients require a DNS provider they can trust, a service that they know will work, and a service that actually does work as advertised. We are happy to report the DNS Failover service from DNS Made Easy did exactly what it was envisioned to do. By using DNS Failover from DNS Made Easy, companies were able to move their traffic to their secondary hosting provider when their primary hosting provider was offline. This allowed our clients to remain online achieving excellent uptime metrics.”
The service from DNS Made Easy works by allowing multiple distributed monitoring locations to check client systems and make sure they are responding accurately. These checks are performed in very short intervals, usually 2 minutes or less, and the results are aggregated from multiple locations for improved accuracy. As soon as a failure is detected, DNS Made Easy will automatically check the client’s systems at backup facilities to make sure those services are available before redirecting traffic. This type of preemptive monitoring allows for even more impressive record uptime. If the backup systems are responding properly, then DNS Made Easy changes the necessary resource records to the functioning IP. The IP change is made using DNS Made Easy’s proprietary Peregrine Cascading Instant DNS Update Service which will ensure instant as well as consistent record updates on all DNS servers within the DNS Made Easy constellation.
The DNS Made Easy Failover and System Monitoring service provides flexibility to its clients by providing many configuration options to suit user requirements. For example, once the primary system is detected as available after an event has been resolved, customers have the option to revert to the primary system automatically or lock the record in backup state so that changes may be made at the facility that suffered the outage before reverting back to normal operations. All clients utilizing the DNS Failover / System Monitoring service have access to a range of monitoring ports and protocols to customize service for the specific website or service that is being configured.
DNS Made Easy states that all clients using their DNS Failover service must have redundant (“mirrored”) hosting elsewhere to use the DNS Failover service. Optionally, if the clients do not have redundant systems of their own “We always provide the complete solution,” states Steven Job, President of DNS Made Easy. “if one subsidiary of Tiggee LLC is unable to provide your solution, we can always point our clients in the right direction. ” Clients that opt to use the DNS Failover service must use the DNS Made Easy IP Anycast DNS service, which provides the foundation for the DNS Failover service. VPSit, a sister company of DNS Made Easy, provides virtual server solutions that can scale to the client’s needs. By utilizing DNS Failover and System Monitoring, DNS Made Easy customers can achieve a solid and cost effective solution to a historically difficult and costly problem.
In the third quarter of 2010, the DNS Made Easy Failover service took action in response to 84,671 systems events. This is a 9% increase over the last projected data. The downtime of the primary monitored systems ranged anywhere from 1 minute to 3 days. With the use of the DNS Failover service DNS Made Easy prevented 106,987 hours and 53 minutes of downtime.
DNS Made Easy’s clients reported an average amount of revenue saved from hosting downtime in the range of $7,000. DNS Made Easy was able to take this statistic and extrapolate this to all clients that used their failover service during Q3 2010. The total savings was calculated as being over $124 million. This calculation did not account for the possible loss of brand recognition and loss of trust that is often associated with a websites service outage.
“Keeping our clients online is crucial to the services that we provide, all of our staff take this responsibility very seriously. We are constantly improving upon our service platform. DNS Made Easy sets the standard for IP Anycast DNS services and allows all companies and organizations of any size access to an affordable IP Anycast DNS Failover solution,” stated Steven Job. “For most clients, downtime of less than an hour would have been a catastrophic hit to both revenue and brand. We are truly thankful and understand the trust that clients have in our company when they decide to use DNS Made Easy.”
DNS Made Easy pricing is a fraction of the price charged by any valid competitors in the business offering comparable services. A study recently released by Tiggee demonstrated the difference in ROI for companies using DNS Made Easy over other IP Anycast providers.
