Company celebrates Earth Day by making changes to reduce its power footprint.
DNS Made Easy joins 220,000 partners in 192 countries to help make a difference for Earth Day, and every day.
“We hope our efforts are a catalyst for change for other business in our area and in our field,” said Steve Job, president of DNS Made Easy. “Each one of us can make a difference, but together we can spur dramatic changes today and for the future.”
Recently, DNS Made Easy upgraded infrastructure in its San Jose point of presence (POP). The previous infrastructure was almost three years old. The upgraded equipment continued on DNS Made Easy’s commitment to lowering their energy footprint while also laying a better foundation for the company’s DNS services, e-mail, authentication and authorization, and necessary storage systems and databases.
“The new equipment increases the capacity and lowers our energy footprint at the same time. Increasing our overall capacity is routinely expected from a service like DNS Made Easy,” Job said. “DNS Made Easy is currently handling 8 billion queries a day and is expecting to exceed an average daily query volume of 13 billion within the next 18 months.”
DNS Made Easy has continually made significant upgrades to help reduce the company’s power footprint. This behind-the-scenes energy upgrade uses less electricity by utilizing new technologies that are able to perform more computing cycles with less watts of power.
A second benefit of the infrastructure upgrades is increased speed. While increased speed sounds irrelevant to going green, having a fast-performing DNS service is important for several reasons. First, fast performance equates to minimized waiting time. Minimized waiting time can increase productivity and unnecessary use of power.
“This is part of our corporate initiative to continually find ways to operate in the most effective and responsible way,” Job said. “Our goal is to continually reduce our power footprint while increasing service and speed. Our company will continually make decisions with considerations on protecting the world for generations to come.”
The company’s green initiative does not stop at its data facilities, infrastructure and services. DNS Made Easy offices use energy efficient motion detection lights in all offices, ensuring power is only being used when needed. DNS Made Easy also gives all employees a “flex commuting” option, allowing them to drive to and from work at non-peak hours to reduce the amount of time spent sitting traffic, cutting down on emissions and fuel consumption.
