As the newest member of the DNS Made Easy family, Real Time Statistics (RTS) allow users to see in a simple visual form how their customers are accessing their site and regionally where queries originate.

Real Time Statistics is a revolutionary feature that allows users to analyze incoming query traffic by:
- Domain
- Resource record
- Location
- Time frame
Users have been asking how to easily view where their clients are resolving their www records from and how their site is being accessed. With RTS, users can readily view where queries are spiking by region. However, RTS goes a step further with diagnostics that help users discover why there’s an influx of queries in particular regions with in depth analysis. According to President of DNS Made Easy, Steven Job, “RTS can foresee an impending DNS attack and expose potential vulnerabilities to the user’s domains.
Previously, users were unable to view their traffic flow, rather they’d have to call a support representative and be sent backlogs of data. Now, using RTS, any outliers or possible deviations stand out from the data in visual representation in real time at the push of a button. RTS runs query analytics every ten minutes, providing users with up to the minute data for immediate analysis.
Users can also identify traffic abnormalities immediately with either Chart View or Tabular View, which provide visual representation that highlights outliers. This innovative tool streamlines the troubleshooting process, allowing users to quickly develop a course of action.
The easy to use control panel allows for maximum efficiency, making data easier to analyze and manipulate through features such as: aggregate and/or filter query data. RTS has many features currently being deployed in addition to more coming soon, such as:
- View query data for the week, month, or year
- View domains with the largest number of queries
- Send query logs to 3rd party storage
- Set alerts when query rates increase above historical thresholds
- Download historical query data
Administrators can analyze traffic patterns and use this detailed information to correlate with traffic generating marketing projects or service impacting changes in network infrastructure. This service provides massive amounts of insight into websites’ traffic, such as whether or not customers are using IPv6, which many companies have converted to. With RTS, users can view which users would use IPv6 if the website provided it. This opens up a potentially new market for administrators if they decide to make the switch.
Another perk to using RTS is the ability to prevent DNS Dictionary attacks. This form of attack is difficult to prevent, however using RTS administrators can detect that such an attack is taking place and can better prepare their networks. By allowing administrators the ability to view NXDOMAIN, they can see when someone is performing a brute force vulnerability scan. RTS acts as an additional firewall, forcing specified domain name queries to reroute to NX domains; therefore restricting public access to only the domains users want traffic being directed to.
DNS Made Easy is currently using RTS to learn traffic patterns of many of their users. In the future they will be incorporating capabilities to alert users of sudden query surges for record resolution in their domain. This will add yet another security measure to ensure user domains are being queried within expected ranges.
