Cyber attacks are growing in frequency and have the ability to affect the bottom line for thousands of companies. That can translate into millions lost in revenue.
Some companies use hosting services that provide Domain Name Service (DNS). This is typically included with the package rate of signing on for services. In recent DNS outages, large, well-known companies were down. Outages like these recent ones stem from what appear to be DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks.
These attacks are geared at taking down websites and causing internet traffic jams. Recent attacks have brought down free unicast DNS services provided by registrars and other IP Anycast DNS services that were not designed to handle the capacity of current DDoS amplification attacks.
