DNS Made Easy Urges Increased Redundancy In Light of Recent Devastating DNS Outages

DNS outage

DNS Made Easy has announced a new initiative to encourage the use of Secondary DNS to ensure 100% uptime. Increasing redundancy is the only way to ensure availability for websites and applications even if the primary provider suffers a DNS outage.

In response to recent crippling DNS outages amongst major providers, DNS Made Easy has announced a new initiative to educate and assist clients with enabling additional layers of redundancy to their DNS configurations. Friday morning, many major websites and applications such as Twitter, MLB, and Etsy were taken offline when their DNS host was unable to be resolved. Reddit and Spotify’s services were also reported to have been impacted by the outage. These issues have been attributed to a substantial DDoS attack on a DNS provider.

“Reliability should always be every organization’s first priority, and any measure possible should be taken to ensure 100% availability for clients,” says President of DNS Made Easy Steven Job.

Unfortunately, some organizations don’t prioritize uptime and would rather spend resources on other performance impacting metrics. The problem, these other metrics don’t matter if a site is unavailable.

DNS Made Easy, the world leader in speed and reliability, urges organizations to implement Secondary DNS to ensure their domains are always available. This service easy to setup, requires limited maintenance and is able to guarantee uptime for clients even if their primary provider is unable to serve their queries. Secondary DNS services act as a clone or a body double for the domain’s DNS provider. Once the primary provider is downed, the backup provider will immediately become authoritative for the domain’s query traffic.

“The Internet and the services we use to manage it are extremely dynamic and susceptible to latency and performance issues,” says Job.

DNS Made Easy is also using this initiative to encourage clients to monitor and hold their service providers accountable to performance impacting issues.
